Last week I did a post about priorities. Now let’s take a closer look at priorities. Not everyone has the same priorities. What is important to you? Before we can "dig" in to getting things clean and in order, we've got to get our minds and hearts in order.
1. God
We will likely all admit that God should be at the top of our prioirty list but is He? We long for a deeper relationship with Him, to spend time in His word & be in prayer(constant communion) with Him. But as Moms we seems to put God on the back burner. Think of how much better our days would be if we first took the time to spend with God.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Psalm 5:3"In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch."
"In your presence is fullness of joy." Psalm 16:11
2. Husband
Our husbands should come before our children but often we are so busy with our children that we don’t have time for each other. We want our husbands to be our biggest fans & our best friend.
"A wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands." Proverbs 14:1
"She does him good and not evil all the days of his life." Proverbs 31:12 Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
3. Children
Our goal is to train our children in the Lord. We want our children to be a blessing. We will always love our own children but we need to raise them so others will love them as well.
"Teach them to your children, And talk about them When you sit at home And walk along the road. When you lie down and when you get up. Write them down and tie them on your hands as a sign. Tie them on your forehead to remind you and write them on your doors and gates." Deuteronomy 6:7-8
"Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
4. Home
I want a clean home, not a perfect home, but a home of comfort & peace. I want a place where my children feel secure & warm, my husband can relax after a day at work & a place where people can show up & make themselves at home.
"She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness." Proverbs 31:27
"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for me..." Colossians 3:23
1 Tim 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
"Do all things without grumbling..." Philippians 2:14
Do you complain about all the housework to be done? As a stay at home Moms, it is our job to keep the house clean and have a meal on the table while out husbands are out working. However, if you are a working Mom then the cooking & cleaning should also be a shared effort. It is good to have order and structure but we need to remember that our kids will not sit around reminiscing about the smell of PineSol and all the time that Mom spent cleaning. Right now we dream about a clean house but one day we will be wishing we had kids around to mess it up.
5. Personal
In order to be a good Mom, I think we need to have time for ourselves – time to do the things we enjoy as well as time to rest. I'm putting this last, not because I don't think it's important to develop ourselves as women, but because I believe the other things come first. Plus, I will be able to enjoy "my" time more if I have everything else in order.
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment
If we do this then everything else will fall into place.
If God isn’t Lord of all then he isn’t Lord at all.
Share ways that you keep priorities in check.
