This is a devotion that I shared at Moms & Tots. It is a closer look at Titus 2:4-5:
Titus 2: 4,5 “That (the older women) may teach the young women to be sober (minded), to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste(pure), keepers at home, good(kind), obedient to their own husbands(be a good wife), that the word of God be not blasphemed. (because of our behavior)
1.Sober minded (a sound mind, at peace)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7
Let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:4
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thess 5:17
2. Love their husbands -
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Eph 5:22
The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish pulls it down with her hands. Proverbs 14:1
3. Love Their Children – Teach, train & discipline
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be on your foreheads. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deut 6:6-9
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Eph 6:4
Now no discipline(chastening) seems to be joyful(pleasant) for the present (at the time), but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11
4. Discreet – showing discernment and good judgment in speech, self controlled
Let no corrupt communication(unwholesome talk) proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying(building others up), that it may minister grace unto the hearers.(benefit others) Ephesians 4:29
A soft(gentle) answer turns away wrath: but grievous(harsh) words stir up anger. Proverbs 15:1
5. Pure(chaste)
Finally, brothers & sisters, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
6. Keepers at Home
7. Good/Kind
1 Thess 5:11” Therefore encourage(comfort) each other and build each other up(edify one another), just as you also are doing.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you(bless you abundantly); that you, always having all sufficiency in all things,(having all that you need) may abound to every good work: 2 Corinthians 9:8
